This neat toy looks like an iphone and holds over 100 games and activities that help young children learn. The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet is also compatible with all Leapster Explorer games and apps. This sleek looking tablet makes learning math, reading and science fun in a new way. It comes with a tilt sensor so that it can be played when turned. It was designed specifically to be flipped, turned and shaken by kids!
The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet is available in a white and green version along with a white and violet version. So it is easy to purchase one for your son and daughter without them getting them mixed up.
The touch screen is colorful and holds a video recorder and built in camera. As your child plays a game the skill level of the game will automatically adjust and match your child’s pace.
LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet is recommended for children aged 4 to 9 and is receiving great reviews from children and parents alike. It has been dropped down the stairs and withstood the fall with no issues. Kids love the ability to take their own videos and then watching them play right away. The Leapster Tablet measures 1 x 5.1 x 7 inches and requires 4 AA batteries which should provide approximately 8 hours of playing time. This Tablet is the first Leap Frog product that accommodates rechargeable batteries.
It has 2 GB of built in memory which allows for more than enough room to store your child’s videos. This provides you with around 120 minutes of video room. The camera can take up to 30,000 pictures.
Plus there is a child sized stylus that allows them to practice writing while learning. Leap Frog also includes a spare stylus with a cord incase your child loses one.
How the Programs Work on the LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet
The reading program on the Leapster Tablet works by using book apps which have three levels built into them. The apps encourage your child to be interactive while reading. They can touch an image and see the word highlighted. They can touch the actual word and its image will appear. As your child touches the words in the book they will be sounded out or their meaning can be looked up in the accompanying visual dictionary.
Each book contains three different levels of text. There are three different modes available which allow your child to listen to the story, read along with the story out loud or read and explore the activities by themselves.
The book also has six different activities included and three fun games. Your child can also record themselves reading the story and then listen to the play back.
The LeapFrog LeapPad Explorer Learning Tablet will automatically adjust as your child’s reading level progresses. While only one child can play on the Leapster it will allow a different child to log on and will remember their details separately. So if you have a younger child at home they could play with the Leapster during the day when their sibling is in school.
For parents it is recommended that you register the Leapster Tablet as this gives you access to online features and gifts. The online tools will allow you to track what your child is learning and what their reading level is. You can even upload your child’s videos and art work if you wish.
It will take about 20 minutes to register your product and this includes downloading the three free apps and creating a profile for your child.
The Leapster comes with a USB cable, an installation CD, a quick start guide and complete instructions. Available accessories that you may wish to consider purchasing are:
