What is a Christian Home Schooler?
Early in our nation’s history, children who were taught within the home learned to read and write through a liberal use of the Bible. As time progressed, the public school system was established; but even then, much of the central teachings came from the Bible and belief in God. Today, reading of the Bible or prayer have been banned; therefore, a large part of the reason parents choose to home school their children is due to these facts.
It is important to Christian parents that their children continue to receive their education from a biblical viewpoint; that is why the main home school movement was borne. It was from this desire by Christian parents to instill faith in God and belief in His word to their children be central to their children’s education; and it was obvious that this was not going to happen within the public school system.
Fortunately, there are numerous Christian curriculums available for the Christian home school family. These curriculum not only address the key desire to educate children from the Christian viewpoint, but they also address the various requirements of the law when home schooling any child.
Christian curriculum provides a full range of educational needs while encouraging a central focus of the biblical point of view. From starting each day with prayer to studying the Bible within all other courses, Christian based curriculum offers everything the Christian home school family will need to both comply with state requirements and fulfill their desire to keep biblical principles central to their child’s education.
It is imperative that, when making the decision to home school your children that you not simply make that choice based upon religious convictions alone. The laws of each state today make it clear that, regardless of this position, in order to continue educating your children at home, you will need to comply with their requirements. When agreeing to do this, you will then be free to educate with biblical principles in mind.
Never approach your decision to home school your children from the mindset that the public educational system is the ‘enemy’. This has the possibility of making your decision worse, if not impossible. You must understand that the laws in place today truly are there to guarantee that your children will receive the education they need to be fully prepared to enter the adult world, armed with what they will need to become productive members of society. There is a fine line though between educating and indoctrinating. Your responsibility as a Christian home school parent will be to ensure that, not only will you retain the freedom to educate your children at home from the biblical point of view; but that you will show good faith your children are being fully educated according to the mandates of your particular state.
Again, the fact is there are numerous Christian home school programs designed to fulfill both your wishes and the state’s. By researching and making plans ahead of announcing your intent to home school, you will avoid any potential problems when it comes time to begin home schooling your children. There are also many Christian home school networks available to provide guidance and moral support. It is imperative you get plugged into this community to ensure continued freedom to home school your children from a Christian perspective.
Within the public school system today, they have embraced a ‘there is no right or wrong religion’ mentality in order they ‘not offend’ anyone’s beliefs. As such, many Christian parents are not in agreement with this ‘multiculturalism’ mindset and have chosen to home school their children in order to prevent confusion from having its way with their children. It is a fact that the Bible teaches there is only one way to heaven and, as such, this position runs contrary to an ‘all-encompassing’ position put forth today within the public school system.
Regardless, in order to legally remove your children from the public school system in order to teach them at home, and instill in them your convictions pertaining to biblical principles, you must also remain within the laws requiring your child be fully educated, not just taught the Bible in and of itself. As long as you show forth good faith that, in addition to teaching your children biblical principles as Christians, you are guaranteeing that your children will receive all education necessary as mandated by the state, you will have no problem establishing and maintaining a Christian home schooling environment.
