Many parents are concerned with the elimination of religion from public schooling altogether, such as the removal of the words "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance or no public praying while in school. While no religion is a form of religious tolerance in some cases, many parents, especially those who have grown up in religious homes, have a difficult time with this elimination of religion. One course of action is to have your child attend a religious private school; but since these can be pricey, another choice for parents is to begin homeschooling.

When you homeschool your child, you are required by law and morally obligated to teach him or her the same things as they would learn with a traditional education. However, in most cases, there are no laws saying how this must be taught. Religion can become an important part of your child's schooling if you choose to teach it. This can include daily praying and other religious activities, as well as an incorporation of religious values into every subject.

However, when you begin homeschooling, realize that there are many views in the world different from your own from which your child may benefit. Your child does not have to become a convert to take advantage of learning techniques of a secular nature, nor should he or she be guarded from learning about the religions of other cultures. Above all, parents should strive to teach religious tolerance to children.

This can be done through field trips, by speaking with parents of different religions who also homeschool their children, or by simply researching at the library and on the Internet about the many religious cultures in the world today. By learning about other religions and other ways of thinking, your child can foster a deeper understanding of his or her own faith and also learn to appreciate what it has to offer to society.

Religion can become a subject you teach as well as a way of life. Whatever your religion, remember that it is only one aspect of your child's education. The step to becoming a homeschooling parent is a big one, so be prepared to teach all subjects to your child, and that includes religion. By doing this, you can ensure that your child receives the best opportunities possible while not having to face a world in which he or she is reprimanded for praying before a test or refusing to wear shorts in gym class for religious reasons.

Early in our nation’s history, children who were taught within the home learned to read and write through a liberal use of the Bible. As time progressed, the public school system was established; but even then, much of the central teachings came from the Bible and belief in God. Today, reading of the Bible or prayer have been banned; therefore, a large part of the reason parents choose to home school their children is due to these facts.

It is important to Christian parents that their children continue to receive their education from a biblical viewpoint; that is why the main home school movement was borne. It was from this desire by Christian parents to instill faith in God and belief in His word to their children be central to their children’s education; and it was obvious that this was not going to happen within the public school system.

Fortunately, there are numerous Christian curriculums available for the Christian home school family. These curriculum not only address the key desire to educate children from the Christian viewpoint, but they also address the various requirements of the law when home schooling any child.

Christian curriculum provides a full range of educational needs while encouraging a central focus of the biblical point of view. From starting each day with prayer to studying the Bible within all other courses, Christian based curriculum offers everything the Christian home school family will need to both comply with state requirements and fulfill their desire to keep biblical principles central to their child’s education.

It is imperative that, when making the decision to home school your children that you not simply make that choice based upon religious convictions alone. The laws of each state today make it clear that, regardless of this position, in order to continue educating your children at home, you will need to comply with their requirements. When agreeing to do this, you will then be free to educate with biblical principles in mind.

Never approach your decision to home school your children from the mindset that the public educational system is the ‘enemy’. This has the possibility of making your decision worse, if not impossible. You must understand that the laws in place today truly are there to guarantee that your children will receive the education they need to be fully prepared to enter the adult world, armed with what they will need to become productive members of society. There is a fine line though between educating and indoctrinating. Your responsibility as a Christian home school parent will be to ensure that, not only will you retain the freedom to educate your children at home from the biblical point of view; but that you will show good faith your children are being fully educated according to the mandates of your particular state.

Again, the fact is there are numerous Christian home school programs designed to fulfill both your wishes and the state’s. By researching and making plans ahead of announcing your intent to home school, you will avoid any potential problems when it comes time to begin home schooling your children. There are also many Christian home school networks available to provide guidance and moral support. It is imperative you get plugged into this community to ensure continued freedom to home school your children from a Christian perspective.

Within the public school system today, they have embraced a ‘there is no right or wrong religion’ mentality in order they ‘not offend’ anyone’s beliefs. As such, many Christian parents are not in agreement with this ‘multiculturalism’ mindset and have chosen to home school their children in order to prevent confusion from having its way with their children. It is a fact that the Bible teaches there is only one way to heaven and, as such, this position runs contrary to an ‘all-encompassing’ position put forth today within the public school system.

Regardless, in order to legally remove your children from the public school system in order to teach them at home, and instill in them your convictions pertaining to biblical principles, you must also remain within the laws requiring your child be fully educated, not just taught the Bible in and of itself. As long as you show forth good faith that, in addition to teaching your children biblical principles as Christians, you are guaranteeing that your children will receive all education necessary as mandated by the state, you will have no problem establishing and maintaining a Christian home schooling environment.

Let's face it: there are negative implications and connotations when it comes to the subject of home schooling. If possible, parents would want to have their children go to ordinary public or private schools. But there are times when a child would have difficulties dealing with the rigors and demands of his classes in school. When this happens, the child just might experience significant delays when it comes to his performance. Thus, home schooling should be considered here. Public school is not a friendly place to many school age children. I would think that school today must be very stressful for many children......that is until they become callous and hard-hearted to the harshness that surrounds them.

One mom actually told another mom.............

Kids are mean, so you should send your child to school with them... One mom's reasons for homeschooling.

Yes, there are negative connotations, but these are not necessarily well-founded. In fact, home schooling is becoming quite an attractive alternative in so many places today! Acceptability is not really much of an option these days when it comes to home schooling. What is important here is that you would be able to meet the needs of the child.

The curriculum for home schooling is quite extensive, so this should not be an issue at all. In fact, you have quite a vast array of options here. Are you looking for a complete curriculum that would cover the usual subjects and courses? There are a lot of alternatives here, which would include Calvert School and Alpha Omega Publications. Browse through the curriculum they have and see for yourself if any of these would best suit your child.

There is also the eclectic approach to home schooling. What happens in this approach is that you get to choose snippets of each curriculum available among the hundreds of vendors that are listed. The obvious advantage here is that you would have the option to customize your curriculum according to the needs of your child. This way, you are sure to have a more guided path for your child’s home schooling needs. Another major advantage that the eclectic approach has is the fact that it is more appropriate to use for children who have learning disabilities.

But if you are worried about just how effective home schooling would be on your child, well, there is really nothing to worry about. That is, if you are willing to do your part. As long as you provide your child a curriculum that is of superb quality, then he or she won’t have any trouble coping with the daily issues other students deal with as well. There are even studies that show how often home school students surpass other students from private and public schools! And this is definitely another reason why home schooling is becoming more and more popular an option these days.

Home schooling can be a lot more difficult than you think. And finding the right home school curriculum package for your child can be tough, especially if you are new to this concept. There are some parents who start home schooling their children using a comprehensive home school curriculum package but may find the structure a little too overwhelming. As a result, they begin experimenting with various teaching styles and techniques.

If you are unsure where and how to start teaching your child at home, then a home school curriculum package can help you. Materials and supplies that are needed for home school teaching are usually provided for in a home school curriculum package. This includes activities, books, report cards, study sheets, teacher guides, worksheets, etc. Finished work is also sent to a designated teacher who corrects, evaluates and grades your child. Moreover, transcripts are kept and diplomas are usually distributed upon completion of the home school program.

A full home school curriculum package is advantageous, especially for those who are new to home schooling. It is also recommended for those who want more structure when home school teaching, wish to replicate the traditional school curriculum at home or are unsure about meeting legal requirements for home schooling.

Some popular examples of home school curriculum packages are Abecka Correspondence Program; Calvert School; Clonlara School Home-based education program; Oak Meadow School; Seton Home Study School and Sonlight Curriculum. These packages incorporate traditional as well as a few non-traditional teaching styles and methods that can enhance your child’s learning. Moreover, these can also give you the experience as well as confidence to explore and discover unique teaching approaches that can promote a more effective and conducive home school education for your child.

Parents who want to include religion in their child’s home school program can get a pre-packaged curriculum from any religious supplier. Examples of home school packages that offer religious programs in the curriculum are Abeka Correspondence Program, Seton Home Study School and Sonlight Curriculum.

However, some home school curriculum packages can be very pricey and satisfaction levels may vary from one person to another. Also, there may be a possibility that your child might not adapt to the package’s structure or model and parents may find the workload heavy and burdensome. Home school curriculum packages that provide more structure in the program may discourage flexibility, freedom and creativity, distinct elements that are usually expected in home schooling.

There are so many reasons and benefits for sending your child to a home school. Some opt for this form of education because of a particular way of life while others consider alternative education due to medical problems. Christian home schooling offers yet another choice.

Christian home schooling has actually risen in popularity. This type of learning offers parents a healthy and easier way of monitoring what their children have been learning from a spiritual standpoint. More importantly, they can supervise whether their child has received a sufficient amount of Christian values.

If you opt for Christian home school, check out an institution that offers the best Christian home schooling curriculum. Here are few tips which will guide you in picking the most appropriate curriculum for Christian home schooling.

Tip 1- Make sure that the curriculum of Christian home schooling instills learning according to Biblical teachings. There are several curriculums of other Christian home schools that claim to be a Christian institution yet do not actually teach straight from the Bible. Make sure the spiritual lessons and values presented in the curriculum are similar to the family beliefs and convictions.

Tip 2 – Another thing to consider when you opt for Christian home schooling is the quality of the Christian education the institution offers. This is an essential quality that must be met when defining what a good Christian home school is. Since you do not want to opt for mere mediocrity when you deal with your children’s education, you need to put much emphasis on the quality of the curriculum the school offers.

Tip 3 – Apart from the quality, determine also that the Christian home schooling curriculum offered by the institution is something that you can manage. When you choose to Christian home school, you are the one who will then teach it to your kids. Make sure that it is something you can dispense with ease and confidence.

Tip 4 - Nevertheless, if you think you do not have what it takes to be a Christian teacher, no matter what the educational tools available, you might consider computer and video curriculums available that will monitor the schooling process for you.

Typically, the real responsibility of Christian home schooling involves a significant amount of time learning about the word of God, focusing on the Biblical values that will “train a child up in the way that he should go so that, when he becomes old, he will not depart from it”.

The online Christian curriculum that we used to teach our children (for more than 10 years) was
Alpha & Omega's SOS
(Switched on Schoolhouse). This curriculum was a total answer to prayer for me and my kids. It is very Christ centered and it has a calendar built into the software that keeps track of your kids lessons. Each day the kids know what lessons they have to do. There is a student section and a teacher section. As the teacher you can unlock it so the kids can check their own work or you can choose not to and check their work yourself. This was and is the most favorite curriculum that we use(d).

One of the greatest things about SOS is it's 'recyclable'. If you have kids in different grade levels the younger kids can use the CD's the next school year. They are also upgradeable so they will stay up-to-date! How cool is that?!

Don't forget all the wonderful Moore's books to help you through the early years. The Moore's help you to de-stress and just enjoy your children in their earlier years.
